Golondrina - Mar del Plata

Golondrina isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. This isn't deep, dramatic penetration, it's a wonderfully accessible piece of history, sitting right in the surf line near the Mar del Plata port. At a mere two meters, you can practically snorkel over the remains of the old fishing vessel, its skeleton of ribs and hull plates emerging from the sand. We'd suggest going early, before the crowds arrive on the nearby beach. The best time is definitely on a calm day, when the swell is minimal, and the light penetrates right down, illuminating the rusty ironwork. You'll glide over a landscape of encrusted metal, home to some surprisingly robust little creatures. We've spotted small crabs scuttling between the plates and anemones clinging to the rebar, their tentacles swaying gently with the surge. It’s a photographer’s dream for wide-angle shots, capturing the interplay of sun, sand, and history. Golondrina is perfect for a relaxed dive or even a long snorkel, offering a unique glimpse into Mar del Plata's maritime past without needing to go deep. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, rich in character.
