II COMENDATORE - Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata diving often surprises people. Our pick for a quick, intriguing shore dive has to be the II Comendatore. This old fishing trawler, shipwrecked right off the coast, sits in just four metres of water. We love it because you can practically stride into the ocean from the beach and be on the wreck in minutes. The Comendatore is broken up, but its skeletal remains are still remarkably intact, offering some great swim-throughs if you're careful. We're talking rusted metal, twisted beams, and the ghostly outline of its hull. It's an easy dive, perfect for working on buoyancy or just enjoying a relaxed float. Look closely among the wreckage; you’ll find plenty of crabs scuttling, small fish darting in and out, and an impressive amount of anemones clinging to the metal. It’s a photographer’s dream on a sunny day, with the light playing through the shallow water and illuminating the wreck. Go early to avoid the crowds, especially in summer.
