INTRAMAR V - Mar del Plata

The Intramar V wreck in Mar del Plata is a fantastic little dive. It’s a tugboat that met its end close to shore, now sitting upright in a shallow 5 metres of water. We love it because it’s so accessible, a perfect first wreck dive or a refresher if you haven’t been in the water for a while. You can easily swim the entire length of the deck, peering into what used to be the wheelhouse and engine room. Rusting winches and cleats are still in place, covered in a surprising amount of green algae and small anemones. Look closely and you’ll spot tiny crabs scuttling over the metal, and schools of silversides often use the superstructure for shelter. It's a great spot for macro photography if you're patient. The best time to dive is definitely on a calm day, when the visibility opens up to give you a clear view of the whole vessel. You’ll feel the surge a bit here, but it just adds to the character of the dive, reminding you you’re in the South Atlantic. We'd suggest going at high tide to maximise your bottom time and avoid any sand stirred up from the shore.
