J. MOREIRA - Mar del Plata

The J. Moreira, right off Mar del Plata, is one of those little wrecks that just gets under your skin. We love it because it’s surprisingly accessible, sitting in just 3 metres of water, perfect for a long, relaxed exploration. You’re not fighting depth here, you’re just soaking it all in. When you drop down, you’re greeted by the skeletal remains of the hull and superstructure, completely colonised by mussels and barnacles, creating this rough, textured landscape. Schools of silversides shimmer around the decaying metal, darting in and out of the nooks and crannies. We often spot small crabs scuttling over the barnacled surfaces and the occasional flounder trying its best to blend into the sandy bottom around the wreck. It’s a photographer’s dream, particularly on a sunny day when the light penetrates right to the seabed, illuminating the whole scene with an almost ethereal glow. Our top tip? Go at high tide for the best visibility; it can get a bit stirred up with less water overhead. This isn't about big pelagics, it’s about the subtle beauty of a wreck reclaiming itself, perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, and new scuba divers looking for an easy, rewarding dive.
