LA CHINA - Mar del Plata

La China, just off Mar del Plata, is a shallow wreck that just begs for a long bottom time. We love spending an entire dive just really getting to know this one. She's a motor vessel, not huge, but with enough character to keep you engaged. You’ll find her hull fairly intact, resting in just four metres of water, so even if you're newer to wreck diving, you can feel comfortable exploring her. The best part? This wreck is absolutely smothered in life. You'll glide over the deck, spotting crabs scuttling into crevices and anemones waving from every available surface. Schools of small fish dart in and out of the superstructure, using it as their personal apartment complex. Our favourite time to dive La China is late morning, when the sun is high and really punches through the water, illuminating the wreck and all its inhabitants. It's a relaxed dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who enjoys a slow, meditative exploration of a historical site. Just keep an eye out for fishing lines, a common hazard in these waters.
