LOS ANDES - Mar del Plata

Forget deep blue drop-offs and technicolour reefs. Los Andes is its own kind of special, a shallow water wreck dive that proves you don't need depth to find character. We’re talking about the remains of an old fishing trawler, sunk in a storm back in 1968. It’s sitting upright in about three metres of water, almost within spitting distance of the Mar del Plata shore, which means it's accessible to practically anyone. What we love about Los Andes is how the light plays through the shallows, illuminating every barnacle and anenome. The deckhouse is largely intact, a real treat for exploring, and you can still make out the outline of the stern and bow. Look closely and you’ll find small schools of silversides darting in and out, and we’ve often spotted small octopus tucked away in crevices. It's a fantastic spot for photographers looking for something a bit different, especially if you catch it on a calm, sunny day when the visibility really shines. For those who enjoy history and a bit of hands-on exploration without the pressure of deep water, Los Andes is our pick in the area.
