Lujan de Cuyo - Mar del Plata

Lujan de Cuyo isn't your average Mar del Plata dive. We love this site for its character, a dangerous wreck from the 1900s, now completely colonised by marine life. It sits shallow, just 7m, making it perfect for an extended rummage. You really feel the history here, the metalwork slowly dissolving back into the ocean, the way the light filters through the gaps in the hull, creating these dancing patterns on the sandy seabed. Exploring the Lujan de Cuyo feels like stepping into a time capsule. Despite the lack of specific species data, we can tell you this: the wreck itself is the star. It’s an artificial reef teeming with the usual suspects for this region – plenty of small crabs scuttling in the crevices, the occasional moray eel peeking out from a darkened opening, and schools of silversides shimmering around the superstructure. Our pick for a truly memorable moment is finding a quiet spot and just observing the way the surge gently rocks the kelp that’s taken root on the deck. The currents can be a bit tricky, so we'd suggest picking a calmer day for better visibility and a more relaxed exploration. It’s a great dive for anyone who appreciates the stories a wreck can tell and wants to spend some quality time with a piece of history.
