MAGAYK - Mar del Plata

MAGAYK isn't just another wreck; it's a piece of history right on Mar del Plata's doorstep. We love how accessible it is, sitting pretty at just 5 metres deep. You really feel the surge here, especially if there's any swell, which adds a bit of an adventurous vibe to what's otherwise a very chill dive. The wreck itself, a fishing vessel that went down in 1963, is scattered but surprisingly intact in places, with big sections of the hull providing plenty of nooks and crannies. What we really enjoy is seeing how quickly nature reclaims things. The metal is completely encrusted with barnacles, mussels, and those orange jewel anemones that look like tiny, pulsing flowers. We've seen schools of silversides flickering through the gaps, and often a grumpy kingclip tucked away in a shadowed corner. It’s an ideal spot for macro photography or just a relaxing second dive to soak in the atmosphere. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the Atlantic, so we always check the conditions before heading out. Our favourite time to dive it is on a calm morning, just after sunrise; the light plays beautifully through the water.
