MARIA MARTA C. - Mar del Plata

The Maria Marta C. wreck, just outside Mar del Plata, is one of our favourite shallow dives in the area. At only 9m, it’s a brilliant introduction to wreck diving, particularly if you're not keen on going deep or pushing into overhead environments. The wreck itself is a small fishing vessel, broken into a few sections, but still recognisable as a boat. We love how the hull is draped in green and brown algae, creating a shaggy camouflage that blends it into the sandy seabed. You won't find huge pelagics here, but look closer. Small schools of silversides shimmer through the deck structures, and we’ve often spotted conger eels peeking out from darker crevices. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too. They love the algae and are surprisingly colourful against the muted tones of the wreck. It's an easy dive, often with good visibility, making it a relaxed spot for photographers wanting to practice their wreck composition without strong currents or tricky navigation. Our best tip? Go on a calm day; the visibility really pops then.
