Marolla - Mar del Plata

Marolla isn't about depth or pristine corals, it’s about history and the sheer accessibility of a shipwreck. This isn't a deep dive, it's barely a dive at all, more of a snorkel or a shallow splash at three metres. We love it for its unique story: a fishing trawler that went down in 1961, right in front of the Mar del Plata port. What you get is a skeletal wreck, heavily broken up but still recognisable in parts, particularly the boiler. Sunlight streams through the water, illuminating the rusted metal. Schools of silversides dart in and out of the twisted beams, and we've seen everything from small sea bass to scuttling crabs making a home in the crevices. It’s perfect for new divers or even experienced ones looking for a relaxed session, maybe a chance to practice some photography in calm, bright conditions. You can spend a good chunk of time just finning slowly over the remnants, imagining the vessel in its working days. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny morning when the light really plays through the water and the visibility is at its best.
