MINERVA - Mar del Plata

Minerva isn't your typical deep, dark wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. This isn't about bragging rights for depth, it's about pure, unadulterated exploration in a surprisingly lively environment. The schooner lies just three metres down, making it perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, and open water divers who want maximum bottom time. You’re practically standing on the deck when you get in the water. We always suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, especially if a recent storm has stirred things up. What you get is a fantastically accessible wreck, scattered but still very recognisable as a ship. Sunlight streams through the water, illuminating the hull's timbers, which are now completely encrusted with mussels and anemones. The old anchor chain is a particular favourite of ours; it’s a highway for small crabs and a hiding spot for blennies. Look closely around the keelson for octopuses – they’re surprisingly common here, tucked away in the shadowy nooks. It’s a shallow site, yes, but the character of Minerva, combined with the sheer amount of life that has moved in, makes it genuinely special. It’s a proper hands-on, get-up-close wreck experience without the nitrogen narcosis.
