Mirasol - Mar del Plata

Mirasol isn’t your typical Caribbean postcard dive, and we love it for that. This isn't about deep blue water; it’s about history and the surprisingly resilient life that clings to it. The wreck itself is a sardine boat, sitting upright in a mere four metres of water. We’ve found ourselves drifting over her deck, spotting crabs scuttling into crevices, and schools of silversides darting in and out of the hold where the sardines once sat. The bow and stern are pretty intact, offering some nice swim-throughs if you're comfortable in tighter spaces. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for an inshore wreck in Mar del Plata. We’d suggest checking the local conditions before heading out; a calm day after a few days without rain is usually our best bet. Even when it’s murky, the atmosphere is incredible – a bit spooky, a bit wild, with the faint creaks of the old boat. It’s a site that really makes you feel like an explorer, and our favourite part is seeing how the kelp forests have started to reclaim parts of the deck, creating a unique habitat. Mirasol is perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate character over coral.
