Mirrow - Mar del Plata

The Mirrow wreck at Mar del Plata is one of those places that surprises you. We love it because it’s not some deep, challenging dive, but a genuinely engaging site right there at 6 metres. You drop onto the remains of what was once a sailing vessel, now pretty broken up but still recognisable in its general shape. What’s really special is how the local conditions have shaped it. The colder Atlantic waters mean you’re not getting tropical corals, but the wreck itself is fuzzy with anemones and hydroids, creating this living skin over the metal. Visibility here can be a bit variable, sometimes a silty 5 metres, other days a bright 10. We'd suggest timing your dive for slack tide if you can, as that’s when things settle down. Even in lower vis, it's fun to explore the ribs and deck planks, pushing through the kelp that sways around the structure. Keep an eye out for the small scuttling crabs and the occasional conger eel peeking from a dark crevice. It’s a site that suits anyone comfortable with colder water and a bit of surge, offering a genuine sense of discovery without the pressure of depth. Our favourite part is navigating the low-slung, broken bow, where the light catches the metallic sheen of the barnacles clinging tight.
