Mister Hyde - Mar del Plata

Mister Hyde isn’t your typical tropical wreck dive. Out here in Mar del Plata, we’re talking about a wreck with some real history, a British steamship that came to grief in a storm way back in 1893. It’s right near the coast, lying in only four metres of water, so it’s a brilliant spot for newer divers or anyone who just fancies a long, easy dive without worrying about depth. What we love about Mister Hyde is how accessible it is. You can spend ages exploring the stern, where the prop shaft and rudder are still surprisingly intact. The bow section is pretty broken up, but it gives you a real sense of the ship’s size. Visibility can be a bit variable, especially after a good blow, but when it’s calm, you’re looking at a genuinely atmospheric dive. Keep an eye out for the shoals of silversides that often hug the wreck, and we’ve seen some hefty crabs tucked into the plating too. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best conditions and a slightly clearer view of the old girl. It’s a proper piece of maritime history down there.
