PARANA - Mar del Plata

The PARANA wreck, right off Mar del Plata, is a standout for us. We love how accessible it is, sitting in only three metres of water. It’s perfect for those calm, sunny days when the surface is flat and the light really punches through. You can practically snorkel this site, but getting down amongst the ribs and twisted metal offers a different perspective. We’ve spent many an hour just drifting over the skeletal remains, watching the resident crabs scuttle into crevices. What makes PARANA special is its history; it was a lighter vessel that ran aground way back, so it feels like a genuine piece of the past underwater. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but that means lots of nooks and crannies have formed, which little fish absolutely adore. You’ll see schools of silversides darting in and out, and we’ve even spotted small octopuses tucked away in the shadows. For photographers, the way the sunlight plays on the rusted structure is magic, especially mid-morning. It’s a site that proves you don’t need depth for character.
