PEDRITO - Mar del Plata

Pedrito isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. Forget deep blue and big fish. This is a shallow, almost intimate dive, sitting at a mere 3 metres in Mar del Plata. The wreck itself is a small tugboat, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Its ribs are exposed, the hull plates ripped open in places, creating these fantastic nooks and crannies that are just begging to be explored. You’ll weave through rusted metal, feeling the cool surge of the Atlantic push you gently. What makes Pedrito a standout for us is the sheer volume of life that has claimed this little tug. We've seen schools of juvenile silversides so thick they shimmer like mercury, along with countless crabs scuttling over the iron. Keep an eye out for the colourful anemones clinging to the shadowed parts of the wreck; they really pop against the rust. It's an easy dive, perfect for photographers wanting to practice close-up shots without worrying about depth or deco. Our top tip? Go on a calm day; the surge here can make things a bit tricky, but when it's flat, Pedrito offers a unique glimpse into a small piece of maritime history, thriving with new life.
