PEDRO I. - Mar del Plata

Pedro I. isn't your typical wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Forget deep blue currents and dramatic drops. This is a shallow, coastal experience in Mar del Plata, perfect for a long snorkel or a very relaxed dive when the conditions align. What you get here is a remarkably intact historical wreck, a steamship that ran aground way back in 1916, with its bones still very much visible just beneath the surface. Our favourite way to explore Pedro I. is slowly, letting the sun play across the rusty plates and the incredibly dense growths of mussels and anemones. Visibility can be a bit variable, so we always check local reports before heading out. When it's calm and clear, you can trace the outline of the hull, spotting the ribs of the ship, now completely encrusted. Fish life here is surprisingly good given the shallow depth; we’ve often seen small schools of silversides darting between the metalwork, and crab scuttling into crevices. It’s a historical relic and a thriving mini-ecosystem, all in one accessible package.
