Pilgrin - Mar del Plata

The Pilgrin wreck, just off Mar del Plata, is a standout for a few reasons. We love it because it’s a genuine piece of history, an old fishing trawler that sank way back in 1968. At a shallow six metres, it’s a perfect spot for divers looking for something a bit different, a proper penetration dive that isn’t too demanding. You drop down onto the wheelhouse, which is still largely intact, then you can follow the line right into the engine room. It’s dark in there, properly dark, so good lights are essential. We've seen conger eels tucked into every nook and cranny, and the occasional king crab scuttling across the seabed. The current isn't usually an issue here, which makes for a relaxed exploration, but visibility can vary wildly. Our advice? Go after a few days of calm weather; that’s when the water settles and you get the best views of the wreck’s skeletal structure and the anenomes clinging to the hull. It’s a proper dive, a deep breath and a step back in time.
