PITUCA - Mar del Plata

Pituca is a funny one. It’s barely a wreck, more like a few ribs of a fishing trawler jutting from the sand at three meters. But we love it precisely for that shallow drama. What’s left of the hull sits close to shore, making it an easy shore dive, often in surprisingly calm conditions. You’ll weave through those skeletal remains, imagining the old trawler working the Atlantic. For us, the real show here is the light. Sunlight filters right down, illuminating the schools of silversides that flicker around the metal. Look closer and you’ll spot tiny crabs scuttling over the rust, and an anemone or two clinging to the exposed beams. It’s not about big fish or vibrant corals; Pituca offers a quiet, contemplative dive. It’s our pick for a relaxing afternoon, especially if you’re keen on photography, playing with those shafts of light. Just be mindful of the occasional surge if a storm has rolled through recently.
