PUNTA MEMORIA - Mar del Plata

Punta Memoria isn’t deep, barely tickling the 7-meter mark, but it’s a brilliant little wreck dive. We love that it’s so accessible, a really quick boat ride from Mar del Plata’s port. What you’ll find is the skeletal remains of a lighter vessel, scattered across a sandy seabed. It’s been down there long enough for the structure to soften, creating all these nooks and crannies for marine life. You’ll see plenty of crabs scuttling over corroded metal, and we’ve found some surprisingly large octopuses tucked into the tighter spaces – keep an eye out for tell-tale piles of shells near an opening. Visibility here can be a bit shifty, sometimes a glorious 10 meters, other times a bit murky, but the shallow depth means there’s always enough ambient light filtering through. Our favourite time to visit is on a slack tide, when the current backs off and you can really take your time poking around the ribs of the old boat. It’s perfect for newer wreck divers or anyone who just wants a relaxed dive with a bit of history to it.
