RANCHERA - Mar del Plata

Ranchera is one of those shallow wrecks that just keeps giving, especially considering its history. We love it because it’s not just a pile of metal; you can actually picture this fishing boat at sea before it ran aground. At a consistent 4 metres, the visibility can be a bit hit or miss, typical of the Mar del Plata coast, but on a good day, the sunlight really punches through the water, highlighting the mast that still reaches for the surface. We always suggest going at high tide for the best conditions, when the surge is less of a factor. What you'll find here is a wreck completely transformed into a reef. The hull is a tapestry of anemones and sponges, and the mast is usually dotted with nudibranchs and small crabs. We’ve seen schools of silversides swirling around the cabin structure, and if you’re patient, you might spot a juvenile hake tucked into a crevice. It’s a site that suits anyone comfortable in cool water and with a keen eye for macro life, perfect for an extended bottom time just exploring the details.
