REGINA (POSSIBLY) - Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata isn’t typically on the radar for wreck diving, but the Regina, or what we strongly suspect is the Regina, is a solid reason to dive here. At a paltry 3 metres deep, it’s not about pushing limits; it’s about a relaxed exploration of history. We love that it’s so shallow; it means incredible bottom time and great natural light for photography, even on cloudier days. This is a freighter, broken into two main sections, lying on a sandy bottom. You can swim through several cargo holds, where schooling hake often gather, creating shimmering curtains of silver. Our favourite part is the bow section; the anchor chain still drapes lazily over the side, now encrusted with orange sponges and green algae. Keep an eye out for Patagonian blennies darting into crevices and the occasional spider crab scuttling across the deck plates. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, which generally hovers around 5-8 metres here. It’s a great site for new wreck divers or anyone who appreciates a chill dive with a tangible link to the past.
