Rey (025450) - Mar del Plata

Rey is one of those shallow wreck dives that keeps you coming back, especially if you’re into the history of these old vessels. Dropping down to just 5 meters, it’s remarkably accessible, making it our pick for an extended bottom time, really letting you soak in the atmosphere. You’ll find the wreck of the Rey, an old tugboat, nicely broken up but still recognisable, with parts of the superstructure and hull scattered across the sandy seabed. What we love here is how the local marine life has utterly taken over. Look closely and you’ll spot anemones swaying on metal plates, small crabs scuttling into crevices, and schools of silversides darting in and out of the rusted remains. The light penetration is incredible at this depth; on a sunny day, the whole site is bathed in this almost ethereal glow, illuminating every detail. It’s perfect for photographers looking for an atmospheric shot of a wreck colonised by life, or anyone who enjoys a relaxed exploration without the pressure of depth. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, which can make all the difference in appreciating the wreck’s character.
