TOERIST - Mar del Plata

TOERIST, for us, is one of Mar del Plata’s true standout dives. At a shallow 6 metres, this German trawler wreck is surprisingly intact and utterly captivating. We particularly love the feeling of descending onto its deck, feeling the cool surge of the Atlantic, and watching the hull emerge from the often silty green. It’s got such a unique character, almost like a ghost ship. You can fin right along the superstructure, peeking into the wheelhouse, and imagine the old crew at sea. Sure, it’s a dangerous wreck, and we wouldn’t recommend penetrating. But for us, the real magic is the way the local ecosystem has claimed it. Look closely and you'll spot scuttling crabs, schools of silversides darting between the rusted metal, and the occasional lurking conger eel. It’s not about bright colours here; it’s about the raw, untamed beauty of a wreck reclaiming its place on the seabed, a stark reminder of the ocean's power. This site is fantastic for photographers looking for atmospheric wreck shots or anyone who appreciates the history beneath the waves. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the clearest conditions, as the currents here can really kick up the sediment.
