USHUAIA (Q.10) - Mar del Plata

The Ushuaia, resting in a shallow six metres, is one of those wrecks that just grabs you. We often find ourselves drawn back to her, even with Mar del Plata’s other offerings. It’s a survey vessel, sunk back in '73 after a run-in with the Rio Quinto, and she’s a beauty to explore. You’ll spend most of your dive admiring the way the light filters through the structure, illuminating schools of silversides darting in and out of the remains. What we really love about the Ushuaia is how accessible she is, making it perfect for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed, longer bottom time. The stern is particularly photogenic, with a decent amount of the superstructure still intact, creating intriguing swim-throughs where conger eels often peek out from behind bent metal. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too; they’re surprisingly plentiful clinging to the kelp that has started to colonise the deck plates. We always suggest going in the morning; the water often feels calmer, and you get better ambient light for photography.
