VENCEDOR PLATENSE - Mar del Plata

Diving the Vencedor Platense isn't about deep blue water or coral forests. It’s a shallow, often challenging dip into a slice of maritime history, right off Mar del Plata. The wreck sits in a mere three metres of water, usually less, which means surge is your constant companion. We love this site for its raw, exposed character, and it’s a brilliant training ground for understanding current and swell in a real wreck environment. This isn't a deep penetration dive. It's more of a crawl-through, a careful exploration of a fishing vessel that met its end close to shore. You’ll find schools of silversides flickering through the superstructure, and if you look closely, plenty of small crabs and anemones clinging to the metal. The visibility can be temperamental, but on a good day, with a low swell, the light filtering through the shallow water gives the wreck a moody, almost ethereal feel. It’s our pick for photographers who want to capture something different, something with a story that feels genuinely earned. Just be mindful of boat traffic overhead.
