VILLA RICA - Mar del Plata

Villa Rica isn’t a deep dive, not by a long shot. At just three meters, it’s more of a shallow exploration, but what it lacks in depth it makes up for in character. This old freighter, sunk decades ago, now sits broken into several large sections, scattered across the sandy bottom. We love how accessible it is, perfect for divers who prefer a relaxed pace or those just getting comfortable with wreck diving. Our favourite part is swimming through the remains of the holds, where shafts of light penetrate the water, illuminating the structure. The wreck itself is heavily colonised by mussels and anemones, creating a fuzzy, textured landscape. You’ll spot crabs scuttling in crevices and schools of small fish darting in and out of the rusted metal. It’s a great spot for macro photographers, too, if you’re patient enough to peer into the smaller nooks. Conditions can get a bit choppy on windy days, so we’d suggest heading out when the sea is calm for the best visibility.
