WALKER NO 2 - Mar del Plata

Walker No. 2 is one of our favourite shallow wrecks in Mar del Plata. It sits upright, just 10 metres down, making it perfect for divers who love to spend an entire hour poking around without worrying about deco limits. This isn't some pristine, intact vessel; it’s a rugged old dredger, well-broken up and covered in a thick carpet of anemones and sponges. We always head straight for the engine room. Light filters down through gaps in the collapsed deck, illuminating schools of silversides that dart through the machinery. Look closely amongst the twisted metal and you’ll find king crabs scuttling over the growth and curious Patagonian blennies peering out from crevices. It’s not about big pelagics here; it's about the intricate details and the sheer volume of life that has colonised every surface. On a day with good visibility, perhaps after a southerly wind has cleared the bay, the whole wreck shimmers with colour. We'd suggest going at high tide; it always seems to feel calmer and clearer then.
