WASHINGTON - Mar del Plata

The Washington isn’t about depth, that’s for sure. At a mere three meters, this old steamship, scuttled back in ‘67 and later moved from Riachuelo, feels less like a dive and more like a historical snorkel. We love it for how accessible it is, a perfect spot if you’re new to wrecks or just want a relaxed dip. You’ll spend most of your time exploring the bow and stern sections, which are still surprisingly intact. The hull is heavily encrusted, a tapestry of green and brown algae, and it’s a brilliant macro playground. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, especially in the calmer morning hours before the boat traffic picks up. Our favourite part? The way the light filters through the shallow water, illuminating pockets of the wreck and making the small schools of silversides shimmer. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, ideal for photographers wanting to practice close-up shots or anyone who prefers a long, leisurely explore to a deep plunge. If you’re a purist chasing pelagics, this isn’t your spot, but for a unique, calm experience, the Washington delivers.
