Recifes Sofia - Abrolhos
Little Duck Reef gives you a real feel for Atlantic Canada’s chillier waters, and it’s one of our favourite spots for a truly unique dive. We love the dramatic topography here; the reef itself is a rugged, craggy affair, dropping down into the cool depths. You’ll weave through impressive stands of oarweed, a thick, leathery kelp that provides shelter for all sorts of smaller critters. Keep an eye out for the Winter skates, often resting on the sandy patches between the rocky outcrops. Visibility can swing a bit, so we’d suggest aiming for a calm day after a few days of settled weather. When it's good, the light filters down through the kelp, creating an almost cathedral-like atmosphere. You might spot a Northern pipefish camouflaged against the fronds, or even an American eel slithering between the rocks. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye. This isn't a site for spotting tropical colours, but for an appreciation of the raw, wild beauty of a temperate reef.
