FERRY BOAT 22 - Arraial do Cabo

The Ferry Boat 22 in Arraial do Cabo is more than just a wreck; it’s a proper time capsule sitting at 21 metres. We love dropping down onto its deck and seeing the steering wheel still in place, the bow pointing out into the blue. There’s something eerie, and frankly quite cool, about finning through the passenger compartments, imagining the last journey it made before sinking back in ‘87. The currents here can be a bit frisky, so check the conditions before you jump in. What makes this wreck a standout for us is how quickly marine life has adopted it. You’ll find schools of sergeant majors swirling around the superstructure and moray eels peeking from every nook and cranny. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too – the colours really pop against the rust. It’s not a huge wreck, but there are plenty of interesting sections to explore, especially the engine room if you’re comfortable with some tighter spaces. Our favourite part is lingering on the main deck, watching the light play through the open hull sections. It’s a dive that rewards a slow pace, letting you soak in the history and the vibrant new life that’s claimed it.
