Ilha de Ancora - Arraial do Cabo

Mamaru, named for the white-tip reef sharks you'll absolutely meet here, is one of those gentle slopes that just keeps giving. We start shallow, often spotting green and hawksbill turtles almost immediately, before drifting down towards a sandy spit. That's where the show really begins: dozens of white-tip reef sharks, sometimes even a few lemon sharks, cruise or settle on the sand at around 20 metres. The visibility here is usually excellent, around 22 metres, which means you get clear views of the sharks as they glide past. It's not a site for dramatic drop-offs or intricate coral gardens – though you'll see some nice Pavona and Staghorn corals – but the sheer density of sharks makes it a truly special dive. Our pick for a relaxed shark encounter, perfect for photographers wanting to capture those classic shark-on-sand shots without needing extreme depths. Just settle in, let the current carry you, and watch the white-tips go about their day.
