Barra de Auastara
Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Barra de Auastara offers some of Malpelo Island's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Barra de Auastara is one of Malpelo’s significant coral reefs, an important hunting ground for its resident sharks. We’ve found hammerheads cruising the reef edge, along with the occasional silky shark making a pass through the open water. This site is best for experienced divers comfortable with current, looking for pelagic action.
