Cantil de la Piscinita - Malpelo Island

Cantil de la Piscinita. Don’t let the name fool you. While ‘piscinita’ means little pool, this isn't some placid lagoon. This is Malpelo, so expect action. We love dropping in here, particularly around the northern tip where the current really starts to pick up. The visibility often hits 20-30 metres, letting you see those enormous schools of jacks well before you’re in the thick of them, often thousands strong, just hanging in the blue. It’s the sheer density of life that makes Cantil de la Piscinita a standout. You’ll drift past walls blanketed in great star coral and lettuce coral, with patches of fire coral adding a surprising splash of orange. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too; little bartail gobies darting into their holes, and if you’re patient, you might spot a spaghetti eel poking out from a crevice. This site is fantastic for experienced divers who appreciate big pelagic encounters but also enjoy the hunt for macro life. Dive it in the morning for the best light, before the wind really kicks up.
