Cantil de Nirvana - Malpelo Island

Cantil de Nirvana, what a name. It sounds a bit zen, but honestly, this site usually kicks your senses into overdrive. We love the sheer wall here, dropping into the blue, covered in those feisty fire corals – touch them at your peril, obviously. It’s a site for those who like their diving with a bit of an edge, where strong currents are the norm and big animals are a solid possibility. Visibility can be hit or miss, but when it’s good, it’s really good. We’ve seen blue runners gather here in serious numbers, a shimmering wall of silver that makes you feel tiny. Keep an eye out for schooling blue bone porgies, too; they’re often hanging out near the reef structure. Our favourite time to hit Nirvana is early morning, before the stronger thermoclines really set in and when the light plays beautifully on the wall. Don't expect a gentle drift, but do expect some serious pelagic action.
