Eliza Reef
Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Eliza Reef offers some of Malpelo Island's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Eliza Reef often feels like a secret handshake among Malpelo divers. It’s not the roaring hammerhead highway of others, but a more intimate, intriguing dive. Here, we often find ourselves drifting along a sloping coral garden, keeping an eye on the blue for silky sharks making a pass. It's a calmer spot, perfect for divers who appreciate the subtler beauty of reef life and don’t mind a gentle drift. We’ve seen white-tip reef sharks sleeping under ledges and schools of snappers hugging the reef wall.
