La Pared del Tangon - Malpelo Island

La Pared del Tangon. Even the name sounds like a rumble in the deep. This isn’t a gentle drift over pretty corals. This is Malpelo’s raw energy, a vertical wall that drops away into the blue, and it often feels like you’re riding a roller coaster. We’ve been here when the currents are a mild nudge, but we’ve also white-knuckled it as they tried to peel our masks off. That’s when the big animals come out to play. We love dropping down and just watching the theatre unfold. Great hammerheads cruise by, their silhouettes unmistakable against the vast expanse. We’ve seen Allison’s Tuna flash past like silver torpedoes, and the sheer number of Galapagos Triplefin Blennies darting on the wall is mesmerising. Look closely and you might spot a shy Hourglass Moray peeking from a crevice. This site feels less like a dive and more like an audience with the ocean’s giants. It’s definitely one for experienced divers who are comfortable in strong currents and deep water, as the real action often happens below 20 metres.
