With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Muerto Cay offers some of Malpelo Island's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Muerto Cay is a solid dive at Malpelo, a good spot to settle in. The reef here provides shelter for schools of grunts and snappers, often with a few white-tip reef sharks cruising the edges. It’s an easier dive compared to some of Malpelo’s more exposed sites, making it a good choice for divers getting acquainted with the currents.
