Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Padi offers some of Malpelo Island's richest wall diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Padi isn't just a dive site; it’s a full-on immersion in what makes Malpelo so utterly wild. We’ve drifted this spot countless times, and every single one has delivered something unexpected. The currents here can be a serious workout, but they also bring in the big stuff – think huge schools of yellow jacks swirling around you, so dense they block the sunlight for a second or two. Look closer and you'll spot harlequin bass doing their zig-zag dance among the rocky outcrops, or tiny colon gobies clinging to the reef. We love Padi for its raw, untamed feel. It's a site for experienced divers who are comfortable in strong currents and are really looking to witness oceanic pelagics. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might even spot a slippery dick darting amongst the fire coral, or a belt cardinalfish peeking out from a crevice. This is a site that demands respect, but rewards you with a truly unforgettable display of marine life that you just won't find in many other places.
