Sukra Cay
Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Sukra Cay offers some of Malpelo Island's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Sukra Cay offers a good introduction to Malpelo's coral reefs, a welcome change from some of the deeper, pelagic-focused sites. We've often found whitetip reef sharks resting in the crevices here, occasionally a nurse shark too. It's a calmer dive, usually less current than elsewhere, making it suitable for divers looking for a more relaxed exploration of the reef structure. Keep an eye out for smaller critters amongst the coral bommies.
