Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - Trampa Tortuga offers some of Malpelo Island's richest diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
Trampa Tortuga is a solid drift dive along the western side of Malpelo. We often encounter schools of hammerheads and silky sharks cruising by, especially in the deeper sections. The site is best for experienced divers comfortable with strong currents and open-ocean conditions, as there's not much shelter. It's really about the pelagics here, so keep an eye on the blue.
