White Reef
Why dive here
With 71+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda and pufferfish - White Reef offers some of Malpelo Island's richest reef diving. Water ranges 28-30°C, warmest September, October, November.
White Reef offers a good Malpelo introduction, especially if you’re easing into the island’s generally big animal vibe. It’s a shallower coral reef, a nice contrast to some of the deeper pinnacles here. We’ve found it’s a reliable spot for schools of snappers and grunts, often congregating in the reef’s nooks and crannies. You might not get the hammerhead tornado here, but it’s a pleasant dive, good for photographers wanting to slow down, or for those days when the current is pushing a bit too hard elsewhere.
