Zona de Buceo 2 - Malpelo Island

Zona de Buceo 2 on Malpelo is a site that delivers exactly what you come to Malpelo for: big animal action, often in chaotic, thrilling conditions. We’ve had dives here where the thermoclines hit you like a cold wall, dropping visibility from 20m to 5m in a heartbeat, then clearing just as fast. It’s not a relaxing drift, expect to work for your sightings, but it’s always worth it. Our favourite experiences here involve the sheer volume of fish. Imagine schools of Broad Shad so dense they momentarily block out the sun, or being surrounded by thousands of Sardines, a shimmering, living cloud. We’ve seen Triggerfish darting through the chaos, and on a really good day, a Giant Tun will cruise by, a sleek torpedo in the blue. It’s an advanced dive, best suited for those comfortable in currents and variable conditions, ready for an adrenaline hit rather than a gentle coral inspection.
