Santai Divers House Reef - Flores
Tequila Sunrise, for us, is one of those dives you just float through, letting the current do the work. It’s part of the wider Vatulaca Reef system, a series of individual coral heads linked up by stretches of sand, and it’s best dived on an outgoing tide. We love dropping in around 5 metres, then just drifting down the slope, checking out the overhangs and sandy patches. You’ll spot the usual suspects here – plenty of bicolor chromis, dusky farmerfish, and saddleback butterflyfish zipping around the branching staghorn and smooth cauliflower corals. Look closely for the smaller stuff too; we’ve had good luck finding ghost pipefish tucked away, and the little zebra eviotas are everywhere if you take the time. What makes Tequila Sunrise a standout is its ease and variety. It’s not about huge pelagics, though we’ve seen barracuda schooling overhead and the occasional reef shark cruise past. It’s the subtle beauty, the vibrant soft corals swaying, and the sheer number of nooks and crannies to explore down to its maximum of 21 metres. For us, it’s also a surprisingly good night dive, the corals glowing, and all sorts of crustaceans emerging from their daytime hideouts. It suits divers who appreciate a relaxed pace, those who like to hunt for macro life, and anyone looking for a genuinely pretty dive without too much fuss.
