Bidara Magic - Lombok & Gili Islands

Delphins Reef, despite its slightly generic name, really delivers. We love this site for its easy access and surprisingly vibrant wall, especially considering it’s a resort house reef. You start on a bright, sandy plateau where we’ve often spotted foraging hogfish and the occasional loggerhead turtle gliding past. The real show begins when the reef drops to its maximum 17 metres. It's not a dramatic drop, but the corals here are fantastic – big, healthy sections of boulder brain coral and great star coral creating intricate overhangs. Keep an eye out for the small stuff; we’ve had some cracking finds like the Antilles glass-slug clinging to sponges and the tiny Cherub pygmy angelfish darting between crevices. Visibility often hits a comfortable 18 metres, making it a super relaxing dive, ideal for photographers or newer divers getting comfortable with wall diving. Our favourite moment? Hovering near a patch of staghorn coral, watching schools of yellowhead wrasse and cleaver wrasse zip around while a Caribbean reef squid materialised, all shimmering and curious. It’s a gentle introduction to Bonaire’s reefs, showcasing the beauty without the need for deep dives or strong currents.
