Deep Blue - Lombok & Gili Islands

Hope Point, tucked away on the eastern side of Poor Knights, feels like a secret. It’s a site we always push for if the weather allows, precisely because it isn’t often dived. The main event here is a magnificent pinnacle, its walls dropping down to our max depth of 24m. We love working our way around it, spotting nudibranchs and starfish tucked into every crevice. The current description mentions deep diving, but for us, the magic is all above 20m. Closer to the surface, a thick kelp forest sways, home to plenty of green rock lobster and banded cleaner shrimp. Look out into the blue for the chance of spotting a blue shark cruising past, or even a fleeting shortfin mako. We always see large schools of pink and blue maomao here, their shimmering bodies creating a living curtain. It’s a superb site for divers who appreciate dramatic topography and don’t mind a bit of a current.
