Scuba Duba Doo - Lombok & Gili Islands
The team at Scuba Duba Doo really impressed us on a recent trip to Lombok and the Gili Islands. They’re a PADI 5 Star outfit, and what we love about them is their genuine, no-fuss approach to diving. You’ll find them operating out of a few spots, but their base on Gili Trawangan is particularly well-run; it feels more like a casual club than a commercial centre. We'd suggest them if you're keen on exploring the reefs around the Gilis, especially for new divers or those looking to brush up on skills. They’re fantastic with the PADI courses, making the learning process feel relaxed and fun, which isn’t always the case with bigger operations. On one dive, we dropped into Turtle Point and found ourselves surrounded by green sea turtles, just peacefully munching on algae, totally oblivious to us. The guides knew exactly where to position us to get the best views without disturbing them. They also have a knack for finding the smaller stuff, like the ornate ghost pipefish we spotted tucked into a crinoid on Sunset Reef. Their morning trips usually beat the crowds, giving you a better chance to see the reef waking up, often with schools of fusiliers so thick they almost block out the sun. Just be aware that Gili T can get busy, so booking your dives a day or two ahead is always a good move.
