Gili Gede Wall - Lombok & Gili Islands

Passe du Puits on Mauritius’ west coast is one of those drift dives that leaves you buzzing, and it’s a site we always try to hit when we're in the area. You drop into the lagoon, then the current picks you up and pulls you out through a channel in the reef. It’s like being on a slow-motion conveyor belt, gliding past the coral walls. We’ve seen plenty of trevally here, often hanging in schools, silver scales glinting, along with big-eyed trevally and the occasional reef shark patrolling the edges of the drop-off. Keep an eye out for eagle rays too, they sometimes cruise by in the blue, winging their way against the current. It’s a pretty easy drift, making it a good option even for those newer to current diving, though we’d always suggest going with an operator familiar with the tides. The deepest you’ll go is around 18 metres, so there’s plenty of bottom time to just relax and watch the reef unfold. It's an intoxicating sensation, that feeling of flying with the current, and we think it's one of the best ways to experience the west coast’s reef system.
