Gili Gede Wall - Lombok & Gili Islands

La Pastelería, or "The Bakery," earned its name because the corals here often look like they've been dusted with flour, a fine layer of sediment that settles after a swell. It’s a distinctive look, though we prefer it when the water's clear and the corals really pop. This site is surprisingly good for deeper dives, particularly if you’re doing some training or just want to spend a bit more time at depth. We've regularly found visibility here pushing 20 meters, which is a real treat for the area. The reef itself has some decent structure, with healthy stands of Rose and Golfball Coral. Keep an eye out for the Blackfin Blenny, they're often tucked away in crevices, surveying their patch. We’ve spotted larger Cubera Snapper cruising the edges, a nice change from the usual juvenile fish. Our favourite moments here are often just hovering above a patch of turtlegrass, watching for shy Fringed Filefish or the busy Spotted Goatfish. It’s a quiet, unassuming site, but offers a solid dive for those looking for something beyond the usual Tayrona offerings.
