Jammin - Lombok & Gili Islands

The Maravagi Wildcat, a Grumman F4F, sits upside down on a bright sand bottom. We love how complete this plane is; the wings, the engine, even parts of the cockpit are still recognisable, even after all these years. It’s not a deep dive, peaking at 19m, making it perfect for longer bottom times and really soaking in the details. You'll find the plane absolutely plastered with corals – soft dendronephthya in purples and pinks, alongside hard table corals that have anchored themselves firmly to the airframe. This wreck, first found in 2018, feels like a submerged museum piece that nature has claimed. Look closely for the smaller residents, like the tiny Blackbelly Pygmygoby darting in crevices or the distinctive Three-lined Blenny peering out. Our favourite is spotting the Citron and Decorated Butterflyfish pecking at the corals around the wings. The current here is usually gentle, perfect for drifting slowly over the wreckage before easing your way up onto the nearby reef. It's a dive that combines a poignant piece of history with a vibrant, growing reef ecosystem.
